Summer Reading Challenge
Clearview Summer Reading Challenge
800 Minute Reading Challenge
BECOME PRINCIPAL FOR THE DAY!
Write the number of minutes you read on your calendar each day over the summer. Return
your calendar at the beginning of the school year. If your grand total is 800 minutes or more,
you will be invited to join us for a special celebration at the beginning of the school year!
Check out the York County Library’s 2026 Summer Quest
Attention: Current Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Graders!
You have access to your Raz-Kids accounts over the summer!
Your Raz-Kids reading can be recorded on your summer reading calendar.
The Summer Slide
Up to 2 months of reading skills can be lost over the summer! It can take the whole first
marking period for students to regain those lost reading skills.
Just a few hours of reading a week can offset the effects of the summer slide.
Tips for Families:
Join your local library’s summer reading program!
Read aloud to your child (even your “big kids”). Read aloud minutes count toward your summer
reading minutes too!
Ask your child questions about their reading.
Listen to audio books when traveling. Listening to books counts toward your summer reading
minutes too!
Get creative! Read outside, read to pets, video chat friends and family and read to them.
Read for yourself! Children tend to read more when they see their adults reading.
